First step: Climb the coconut tree and cut a few branches.
Split the branch into two and lie it on the ground.
Then, begin to weave its leaves.
It is called makuti.
Makuti making requires team work and a lot of time, because a lot of branches need to be weaves to make a hut… But it is so much fun!
Second step: makutis are kept laid under the sun for a few days, until they get dry.
Last step: makutis are ready to be used as roof material. They are tied and secured to the beams with ropes and it is done!
All of these efforts are for our chickens. But you are also welcome to enjoy the shade of our makuti!
