Assalam International School, one of the leading projects of the Assalam Community Foundation, offers world-class education to children in Zanzibar. As of 2024, with an enrollment of 149 students, we continue to expand by adding new classes each year.

Assalam Children’s University: Empowering the Next Generation of African Innovators
At Assalam Children’s University, established by the Assalam Community Foundation, students explore a broad range of subjects from technology, coding, and science to art, theater, and sports, fostering their critical thinking and natural curiosity. Through a blend of traditional education and innovative approaches, such as using 3D printing technology, we ensure that our students receive a well-rounded and practical education that will benefit them in real-world settings.
Our mission is to nurture exceptional skills in African children, preparing them for success across various fields. Each year, approximately 50 students graduate from Assalam Children’s University with the knowledge and capabilities to thrive in an increasingly technological world. This education provides our young learners with the unique opportunity to discover themselves while growing into a generation that can make meaningful contributions globally. Madrasa: Nurturing Faith and Good Character in Zanzibar
In Zanzibar and along Africa’s East Coast, madrasas are foundational and culturally significant educational institutions where children attend classes after school. Here, children receive an education rooted in morals, faith, and knowledge, nurturing their growth in alignment with local traditions. This longstanding education model blends religious and societal values, preparing young people for life with both spiritual and communal insight.
Today, madrasas in Zanzibar continue to instill a strong sense of ethics in young students. By emphasizing values such as honesty, communal responsibility, and good behavior, madrasas support children in developing a solid foundation of faith and positive habits. Mobile Library of Assalam
With the Assalam Mobile Library as our cornerstone, we are now able to provide local schools with even more educational opportunities. Students are welcome to visit our interactive facility, which offers a genuinely unique educational experience by fusing the arts, sciences, and technology.
- Interactive Science Experiences: In our science labs, kids can participate in virtual reality tours, learn how to build basic machines, and interact with scientific phenomena in an immersive, unforgettable setting.
In order to equip Zanzibar’s young with information and skills that are both locally and globally relevant, this program promotes creativity, critical thinking, and the joy of discovery.
Science Center
Exploring Science and Technology through Zanzibar’s Cultural Lens.
At the Assalam Science Center, science and technology are brought to life via interactive education. By emphasizing STEM education, the center gives kids hands-on experiences that foster creativity and curiosity.
- Virtual Reality and Digital Learning: Students can engage with 3D models, take part in space excursions, and investigate ecosystems using VR, which offers them an immersive and unforgettable educational experience.
- Exploration Zones: Students can interact closely with scientific ideas in every area of the center, from engineering to biology and astronomy. These activities pique interest and ignite a love of learning, whether they involve building virtual robots, studying the solar system, or performing chemistry experiments.
The Assalam Science Center equips children to be future leaders, inventors, and thinkers by making science interesting and approachable.
Library
With hundreds of books in many languages, our library is a warm and inviting place where kids can learn about cultures and tales from around the globe. We foster a love of reading in kids by providing them with engaging reading experiences and innovative educational resources that equip them with the knowledge and abilities necessary for success in the real world.
STEAM LAB
The Assalam STEAM Lab empowers young minds through dynamic, hands-on learning across science, technology, engineering, art, and math. In this inspiring space, students turn creative ideas into tangible projects, develop essential technical skills, and build confidence in solving real-world problems. By engaging in workshops and creative challenges, students cultivate critical thinking and adaptability—skills that are crucial in our increasingly technological world. Through teamwork and exploration, the STEAM Lab nurtures curiosity, encouraging students to approach challenges with innovative perspectives and a readiness to make an impact in the future workforce.
Vocational Training Center (VTC)
At Assalam, we believe that skills create opportunity—and opportunity transforms lives and communities.
Human potential is at the heart of sustainable development. Through vocational training, individuals gain the practical knowledge and technical skills needed to build independent and meaningful futures.
At our Vocational Training Center (VTC), we currently offer hands-on training in:
- Electrical installation
- Plumbing
- Carpentry
- Welding
- Permaculture
These programs equip students with real-world skills that respond to local needs and create pathways to employment and entrepreneurship.
Over the past years, Assalam has trained 200+ women, man and youth, supporting them in gaining employment, starting businesses, and improving their quality of life.
Our training programs include practical learning and internship opportunities, allowing students to gain real experience in their fields.
We also support our graduates beyond training by offering microfinance opportunities, helping them start and grow their own businesses.
In addition, social entrepreneurship education is integrated into our programs, empowering students to think creatively, act responsibly, and contribute to their communities.
Many of our graduates have gone on to secure employment or establish their own initiatives—becoming active contributors to local development.
